Well Child/Tamariki Ora
Health checks from a Well Child Nurse. Support and advice to Whanau/families and Tamariki/children from 6 weeks to 5 years old, including:

Monitoring the growth and development of your tamariki/pepi

Health Education

Referral to additional and/or specialist services

Kaiawhina support
-
Breastfeeding advice and support
Each child is also entitled to 8 free Tamariki Ora checks between the ages of 6 weeks and 5 years. Depending on needs assessments each whanau can be eligible for 10 or more additional visits. The geographical area covered by this service – stretches from Balclutha in the South, to Palmerston in the North.

Reducing Inequalities Contingency Fund
Advocacy, advice and support to whanau to help reduce health inequalities - including facilitating access to services which clients are eligible for - but for some reason have difficulty accessing.
Access to a fund which supports whanau to address health needs, through reducing the financial barrier of visiting a GP and picking up necessary prescriptions. Specific criteria apply – Applicant must meet three of the four following criteria (primary) Are either Maori or Pacific of descent, Low income, Live in Otago, Registered with a GP practice/ PHO in Otago. Applications are individually assessed and if approved applicants can access funding towards their GP and Prescription costs. The geographical area covered by this fund is the whole of Otago.

Kaupapa Maori Healthy Lifestyles
A Kaupapa Maori Healthy Lifestyle Programme aimed at reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes through:

Educational Hui – Diabetes, Lifestyle, Healthy Kai

1:1 Support from Personal Trainer – including individualised exercise prescription and nutritional advice

On-site gym - access for all clients enrolled on the programme
-
On-site computer access to electronic health diary
-
Clinical Support if needed – including referrals to specialist services
The geographical area covered by this service is Dunedin and the wider area, although healthy kai classes, and hui are delivered in a variety of settings (including marae) throughout Otago.
Disease State Management – Mobile Nurses
Mobile nursing service for people aged 18+, focusing on diabetes, respiratory and cardiac conditions. A Registered Nurse provides this service. The service consists of up to eleven visits over one year. Nurses work in partnership with clients to develop a plan of care which is individualised to their health needs.

Whanau Ora
Whanau Ora kaimahi work with clients in partnership to provide them with general health education, advice, liaison, promotion and support. The aim of this service is to ensure clients are accessing the appropriate services they are eligible for.

Each whanau/individual has an individual health plan designed in partnership with their Whanau Ora kaimahi.
-
Kaimahi also plan, coordinate or facilitate a number of health promotional hui and activities throughout the year.
Parents As First Teachers
Education and support programme that looks at developmental stages of the child aged between 0–3 years, recognising that parents are their children’s first and influential teachers! Including:
Monthly home visits with a parent educator
Educational resource advice
Quarterly group meetings
The geographical area covered by this service is the greater Dunedin region – including the Harbour towns, North to Palmerston, and South to Taeiri Mouth.

Family Violence (MSD) / Mana Wahine
A service that includes;
1:1 work with victims of family violence – information, advice, advocacy, referral and the development of a safety plan.
Mana Wahine/ Group work – where women attend a number of weekly sessions to explore a variety of topics that give them strength and knowledge to make healthy choices in their lives. Topics include; Family Violence, Ko Wai Au/ Whakapapa, Budgeting, Healthy Lifestyles/ healthy kai, Sexual health, etc.

Strengthening Families : Lead Agent (MSD)
Strengthening Families provides coordinated support for families/whanau with children under 17, who are working with two or more government or community agencies. The agencies work together with the family to provide support and develop joint solutions to issues, rather than each agency dealing with one part of the problem and never seeing the bigger picture.
Kaitoko Whanau
The basis of Kaitoko Whanau is - support for whanau to build long term resilience. Kaimahi work with whanau to assess their situation and;

Develop an action plan to reach their individual goals

Link whanau into the right people that can provide the right help, at the right time.
SKIP Parenting
Parenting groups held throughout the year. SKIP resources and parenting information delivered within a Kaupapa Maori framework.
Clinics
Qualified kaimahi from Tamariki Ora, Disease State Management, Healthy Lifestyles and Whanau Ora provide health and social services at clinics throughout Otago in partnership with others i.e. Agencies, Workplaces, Primary Health Organisations, and other Maori Providers.
Agencies, organisations, or others involved within the community who are interested in working in partnership with Arai Te Uru Whare Hauora to increase Maori health outcomes (i.e. through health promotional activities or clinics) are welcome to contact Arai Te Uru Whare Hauora’s Clinical Manager.
